British Values

We believe our school is an integral part of the community and ensure that our values are embedded within all aspects of school life.

Our school values reflect and actively promote British values through our Learning through Life approach. We enable pupils to:

  • Learn together (Inclusion)
  • Do it myself (Independence)
  • Communicate effectively and be understood (Communication)

These values are realised through a highly personalised, pathway-based curriculum, carefully matched to pupils’ individual needs and stages of development. British values are not taught in isolation; they are systematically embedded through meaningful, contextualised learning opportunities across all pathways. This provision is clearly evidenced within our curriculum overview and long-term planning.

Opportunities to develop understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance are woven throughout daily practice and enriched through a strong commitment to SMSC development. This ensures that pupils not only acquire knowledge, but also develop the confidence, communication skills and independence required to participate fully in their communities and in life beyond school.

The impact of this work is evident across the school:

  • pupils demonstrate increased confidence and independence
  • pupils develop stronger communication and self-advocacy skills
  • pupils show respect for others and develop positive relationships
  • pupils increasingly engage with their community and wider world
  • pupils are supported to understand safety, boundaries and emotional wellbeing
  • pupils are prepared for adulthood through meaningful real-life experiences
  • pupils feel included, valued and able to participate in school life

Our curriculum ensures pupils are not only academically supported, but are empowered to become active, confident and valued members of society, equipped with the communication, emotional and social skills needed for life beyond school.

We have a student council which is represented by our classes- please see our student council agenda for this year.
